About Casa Verde

Casa Verde specializes in distinctive, handcrafted colors and textures for residential and commercial projects.  We source products from companies that go beyond industry standards for improving air quality, which becomes increasingly important as homes and office buildings become more energy efficient.  Our coatings are predominantly zero VOC and 100% non-toxic, which means they have health benefits in addition to the environmental protections associated with the reduction of VOCs. Our finish products offer an unparalleled combination of beauty, comfort and durability for walls, floors, furniture and cabinetry.

Casa Verde Paint is open to the public, serving homeowners, contractors and design professionals in the Denver Metro area and along the Front Range.  We work with clients to specify products that meet the requirements and enhance the design of their projects, and can provide technical data and quotes, when needed.

Now that we're established in our new location at 29 Kalamath Street in Denver, we are expanding our training calendar to include more decorative painting and plaster classes for our do-it-yourself customers, including some really fun, practical classes on furniture refinishing and how to repurpose items for an extended lifecycle.

If you'd like to be informed of upcoming classes, please sign up for our mailing list using the Contact Form on the right; just say "Mailing List/ Classes" in the subject line and we'll take care of the rest.

WHO WE ARE

We have been involved in the green building industry for 9 years, starting with a green building supply in Scottsdale, and more recently launching a green coatings business in the Denver Metro area.   We value healthy living and a sustainable lifestyle, and endeavor to leave the environment a cleaner, healthier place for future generations.  Our manufacturers are leaders in environmental stewardship--their green business practices extend from intelligently designed products to packaging, shipping, recycling and community-based initiatives.

    Interview with Laurie Hessemer, Owner

How did you get involved in this business?

I managed a green building supply is Scottsdale, AZ for a couple of years before moving back to Denver.  Before that I had an eclectic background that included work in high technology, biotechnology, the financial sector and higher education--but from the time I learned about green building practices, I knew that I wanted to be involved in this industry in some capacity.

What distinguishes your business from other businesses in your category?

We are the only supplier on the Front Range that specializes in healthy, high performing interior finishes  for residential and commercial projects.  We source products from suppliers that go beyond industry standards for improving air quality, which becomes increasingly important as homes and office buildings become more energy efficient.  Our paints, plasters, stains and sealers offer an unparalleled combination of beauty, comfort and durability for walls, floors, furniture and cabinetry.

What do you like best about about your line of work?

I like helping people lead healthier lives by offering them better alternatives for finishes they come in contact with every day.  In particular, I like working with color and texture because they enhance good design and transform how we feel in a space.  I also like the involvement you unavoidably have in every aspect of a small business, from sales and marketing to finance and purchasing and sweeping the floors occasionally!  There is always something interesting to do and no two days are exactly alike.

What is your business' biggest challenge?

I think the biggest challenge we face is not unlike any other small business--raising the profile of the business, making people aware of the products and services we offer and how they are different and better than the alternatives that are more commonly available.

Something that people might be surprised to learn about your business?

We offer training for homeowners and contractors on how to install and maintain our products.  And for those who prefer to have the work done, we offer referrals to highly qualified designers, builders and contractors, some of the most creative people in our community.  We love the synergies we have with these professionals and really enjoy working with them to deliver impressive results for our customers.
